| Desmond DNA Project | This is probably the best analysis to be found about the origins of the Fitzgeralds and others, especially about the authenticity of Dominus Otha and the connection to the Gherardinis of Tuscany. Further to this last point, it is said that the scholarly eighth Earl of Kildare, Gerald Fitzgerald ("Gerald the Great"), (b.1456, d.1513) entered into a correspondence with the Gherardini family in Italy to try to determine a link, but apparently never succeeded. |
