Birth*Captain James Giddings was born circa 1780 at USA.1,2 
He was the son of Solomon Giddings and Sarah Waterman.2 
Anecdote*He visited a neighbour, Jabez Deming to study navigation where he met his future wife, Jabez' daughter Lucy who was 12 at the time.2 
Occupation*Captain James Giddings was At the age of 14 left home and went to sea circa 1784.2 
OccupationHe was At the age 0f 21 he was captain of his own ship and his own super-cargo in buying and selling of his own cargo.
His ship, "The Caroline" was sunk by a French privateer, and the Captain and crew were taken to Havana and held as prisoners of war for forty days before being exchanged.
His next ship was wrecked off Cape Hatteras about 1812. circa 1791.2 
Marriage*He married Lucy Deming, daughter of Jabez Deming and Lucy Stoddart, in 1802 at Susquehanna, PA, USA.2 
OccupationCaptain James Giddings was After losing two ships, and with a wife and four children to support he decided to leave the sea. His father gave him a few hundred dollars to buy a farm, and he moved to Susquehanna County in Pennsylvania. circa 1812.2
