                                                       BEAVIS

James Beavis with his third wife and children from County Fermanagh, Ireland had settled in Otonabee in 1826. Adam was one of the children who were soon orphaned by the death of their father and the remarriage of his wife. Adam worked among the Fifes and Nelsons then married Janet Nelson in 1847. In 1854 they settled in Asphodel on E 1/2 Lot 8, Conc 5, purchased from John M. Fife. There they raised eleven children among whom were Reuben, who at one time taught at Fife's school, then went into the Methodist ministry, and served in British Columbia and Saskatchewan, Annie who married Eben Laing and lived in Norwood,, Nelson whose daughter Mae was Mrs. Lloyd Hess, Gordon who married Edith Fife, and John Wesley.

Adam was a member of the first Board of Trustees of the Methodist church in Hastings, and sometimes led the singing there.

John Wesley lived on E 1/2 Lot 9, Con. 2, married Elizabeth Udy and raised eight children: Ella (James Stevenson), Harold Wesley, Herbert, Lewis, Milton, Wilbert, Evelyn, and Percy.

Harold Wesley lived in Hastings and Norwood and had James Wesley, Bertina - now a retired teacher living in Lakefield, Alton, Ewart, and Ethel (Allan). Herbert married Lucy White of Norwood and they had three children: Fred who married Gladys Slenhunson and had Herbert, Gordon, and Vivian. Dorothy married H. Elliott and had Gail and David, and Rosie who married Robert Reynon and had Anne, Robert, John, Rosemary, Dorothy and Cathie. Lewis married Frances Warner, lived in W 1/2 Lot 10, Con 5, and had Mary (McMillan), Marjorie (Patterson), John and Ford twins, Frances (Stranahan), Anne (Williamson), Archie, James, Albert, and Bertha (Cornelius). Lewis was a township councillor for eleven years, dying in office. Milton married Eva Naylor, and Wilbert married Clarice McColl.

Birth*Adam Beavis was born in June 1823 at City of Fermanagh, Ireland; Another source says birth Mar 1822.
He was the son of John Beavis and Ellen McMannah
Anecdote*See tag "history" under Adam's father, James Beavis. After Ellen McMannah Beavis lost her husband, James, and married Robert Carter, none of her children by James Beavis appear in the Carter household. It seems that they were adopted, or "placed" before she married Robert Carter. The history tag of James Beavis indicates that Adam grew up among the Fifes and Nelsons (Neilsons) and later married Janet Nelson.
Marriage*Adam Beavis married Janet Neilson, daughter of William Neilson and Mary Tyler, on 15 December 1847; Marriage was witnessed by William Carter, his half brother.1
