The death occurred in Carluke, Lanarkshire on December 3, of Rev. Walter Gordon Carter, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. John Carter of Peterborough, formerly of Hastings.
Deceased, who had been ill for two years, was in his 47th year. Born in Percy Township, on the farm now owned by Thomas Williamson, he attended the Hastings Public School and the Norwood High School. As a graduate of Queen's University, Kingston, he later left for Scotland to complete his education as a Presbyterian minister, and has ever since resided in Scotland. The late Mr. Carter and his wife and daughter were visitors to Canada ten years ago, and during his stay with his grandmother, the late Sarah Carter, he occupied the Presbyterian and United pulpits in Hastings where he met many friends who were pleased to see him.
The funeral took place in Scotland on December 8. Burial was made in his parish grounds.
Left to mourn his passing, besides his wife and only daughter Muriel, are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Carter, his sister Helen, Mrs. Graham of Lakefield, and one brother, Harry, of Westwood.

A farmer in Otonabee Township for almost 50 years, Joseph Henry (Harry) Carter died suddenly on the Civic Hospital grounds Sunday morning.
Born in Percy Township, son of the late John Carter and the former Janet Fife, Mr. Carter farmed near Westwood on the Otonabee-Asphodel boundary until ten years ago when he retired to Peterborough. He resided at 212 Lansdowne St.
For seven years Mr Carter was grounds superintendent of the Peterborough Exhibition and recently has been in charge of landscaping at the Civic Hospital.
He was an original member of St. Giles' Presbyterian Church, and a former member of the Board of Managers. He also took an interest in improving the ground around the church and three years ago was largely responsible for putting the organ in the church.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, the former Mollie Porter, and a sister Mr. Alex Graham (Helen) of Douro Township. A brother, the Rev. Walter Carter predeceased him.
The funeral will e held from the Comstock funeral home on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gerald Graham of Grace Presbyterian Church, Millbrook, officiating. Burial will be in Little Lake Cemetery.1 |
