He was the son of Donald James Carter and Elsie Mildred Stocks. 
Graduation*John (Jack) Stocks Carter was graduated circa 1938 at University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada; Graduated in mining engineering, then went to work for Consolidated Mining & Smelting (now Cominco)
Later, became managing director of Deloro Stellite in England, a subsidiary of Carborundum Co. in Canada. 
Marriage*He married Mary Frances Haddow, daughter of Albert Walker Haddow and Mary Amelia McLean, on 10 April 1948 at Robertson United Church, Edmonton, AB, Canada. 
Death*John (Jack) Stocks Carter died on 21 February 1969 at King Edward VII Hospital, Midhurst, Sussex, England, at age 53; He was cremated and his ashes were scattered in the hills above Bishopstone, Wilts. where he spent a lot of his time walking or shooting. His wife, Fran, and son Donald scattered the ashes.2 
Anecdote*In a letter to Lesley (Carter) Foden dated Jan 1998, John Stocks wrote about John (Jack) Carter, "A big, jovial, very nice man who, in his young days, made canoes, travelled on rivers in them on lengthy trips, skied well, and did adventuresome things." He graduated about 1936 in mining engineering, and was not permitted to join up for military service because of his expertise in mining and metals.
