My
curiosity about my ancestry began with exploring what little data was
available about the CARTERs
and the MUNROs.
It was
surprisingly easy to add to the information and it quickly
enlarged. Soon dozens and then hundreds of other surnames appeared.
Since
everyone’s ancestors double in number with each generation, it’s
not long before investigation reveals an astonishing number.
To put this into perspective, if you successfully trace
your family ancestry back through ten generations, say to about
three
hundred years ago, more than one thousand people will be identified
who made a contribution to your genetic makeup.
In
this case, one line of our CARTER
ancestry has been traced back to the time
of William the Conqueror in the 11th
century, with a more tenuous linkage to Florence, Italy in the
9th century.
